What is a Maxillofacial Locking System?
It’s designed to provide rigid fixation for facial fractures. The key feature is the use of locking screws. These screws have a special design that creates a more secure connection with the plates and the bone. This locking mechanism offers enhanced stability compared to non – locking systems. It’s well – suited for a wide variety of facial fractures, helping to hold the bone fragments firmly in place during the healing process and ensuring the proper restoration of facial structure and function.

Key Components
- Plates: Made of quality biocompatible materials such as titanium. They’re shaped to fit facial bone contours well, giving support and stability to fractured or misaligned bone parts.
- Locking Screws: Have a special locking mechanism for a secure connection with the plate and bone, making the fixation more rigid than with traditional screws.
- Screwdrivers and Instruments: Special ones are included to help handle the plates and screws during surgery.
Benefits
- Enhanced Stability: The locking mechanism offers better stability than old fixation methods, speeding up healing and cutting down on complications.
- Precise Reduction: The plates allow for accurate anatomical reconstruction of facial bones, improving how surgeries turn out.
- Minimally Invasive: Sometimes they enable less invasive surgical approaches compared to traditional ones.
- Biocompatibility: As they’re made from body-friendly materials, the risk of the body rejecting them is low.
Applications
- Fracture Repair: Used for fixing complex facial fractures from things like trauma, accidents, or birth conditions.
- Corrective Surgery: Applied in corrective jaw surgeries, orthognathic procedures, and other facial reconstruction surgeries.
- Tumor Resection: Can offer support and stability after removing tumors in the maxillofacial area.

How Does a Maxillofacial Locking System Work?
The plates are first carefully positioned over the fractured or surgically – adjusted facial bones. Their shape, contoured to fit the bones, allows them to sit snugly.
