What are hand and foot surgery instruments?
Hand and foot surgery instruments refer to a collection of medical tools and equipment specially used in surgical procedures for the hands, feet, and ankles. They cover a wide range, from basic cutting and grasping tools (such as scalpels and hemostats) to complex microsurgical instruments (like surgical microscopes and micro forceps), as well as bone – processing devices (such as electric drills, bone chisels, and internal fixation plates/screws), and postoperative care tools (such as specialized lamp shades for therapeutic lamps). These instruments are precisely designed to match the delicate and complex anatomical structures and surgical requirements of the hands and feet.

What are their functions?
- Support for fine operations: Instruments like surgical microscopes, micro forceps, and micro needle holders provide a magnified and clear view and enable precise operations for the repair of nerves, blood vessels, and tendons (such as finger replantation), ensuring the quality of suturing and anastomosis at the microscopic level.
- Bone tissue handling: Electric drills and electric saws can cut and drill bone tissue; internal fixation instruments such as Kirschner wires, mini plates, and screws can stabilize fractured bone ends (such as fractures of fingers and toes); bone chisels and rongeurs can trim bone tissue to assist in deformity correction (such as hallux valgus and hammertoe repair).
- Surgical field and tissue management: Retractors can retract skin and muscles to expose the surgical area; hemostats and electrocoagulation devices can stop bleeding efficiently and reduce intraoperative blood loss; needle holders and suture needles/threads are used for wound and soft tissue suturing.
- Specialized treatment for foot diseases: Podiatric instruments such as nail clippers and corn knives can specifically address foot problems like calluses, ingrown nails, and hallux valgus; specialized tools like calcaneal distractors can create operating space for complex foot and ankle surgeries (such as calcaneal fracture repair).
- Postoperative care assistance: Improved lamp shades for therapeutic lamps can gather heat and facilitate observation after finger replantation and flap repair surgeries, enhancing nursing safety and patient comfort.

Why are they needed?
- Particularity of anatomical structure: The hands and feet contain a large number of tiny nerves, blood vessels, and complex small joints. Ordinary surgical instruments lack sufficient precision, while specialized instruments (such as microsurgical instruments) can adapt to their delicate structures and avoid damage to important tissues.
- Requirement of surgical complexity: Hand and foot surgery involves high – precision operations such as finger replantation, microvascular anastomosis, and complex fracture internal fixation. Specialized instruments (such as CVT bone holders with aim and micro needle holders) are the core prerequisite for achieving precise operation and ensuring surgical success.
2.Therapeutic effect and patient prognosis: Specialized instruments can reduce surgical trauma, shorten operation time (for example, ultra – sharp tissue scissors improve cutting efficiency), and at the same time, promote fracture healing and restore hand and foot function through precise fixation and repair, greatly improving the patient’s postoperative quality of life.
