Threaded K-wire

  1. Threaded Locking Power
Helical threads on the shaft boost pull – out resistance by 50% compared to smooth K – wires. This firmly stabilizes bone fragments during the healing process.
  2. Versatile Sizing Range
    • Lengths: 150mm (for small bones like hands), 200–400mm (for limb bones).
    • Diameters: From φ1.0mm (for delicate procedures) to φ4.0mm (for heavy – duty traction), matching different fracture severities.
  3. Atraumatic Thread Design
A sharp, tapered tip and smooth thread edges allow for smooth drilling into the bone, minimizing thermal damage and reducing post – operative pain.
  4. Material Flexibility
Available in medical stainless steel (cost – effective) or titanium alloy (MRI – compatible). Both are suitable for sterile operating rooms and long – term implantation.
  5. Sterilization Compatibility
Can withstand 134°C autoclaving, ensuring sterility in the operating room. It is reusable, which helps save costs.

Threaded K-wire: What Is It?

It is a specialized orthopedic guide pin featuring helical threads.
Used to anchor in the bone, it stabilizes fractures, guides implants, or provides temporary fixation. The threaded design locks into the bone tissue, preventing slippage. It is ideal for weight – bearing bones (such as the femur and tibia) and complex trauma cases.

Applications of Threaded K-wire

  1. Fracture Fixation
Secures comminuted fractures (like tibial plateau fractures). The threads grip bone fragments, reducing displacement.
  2. Joint Replacement Guidance
Guides the placement of screws or nails in hip or knee arthroplasty, ensuring precise alignment of the implant.
  3. Trauma & Reconstruction
Provides temporary fixation for open fractures (such as femoral shaft fractures) and supports external fixators.
  4. Spine & Foot/Ankle Surgery
Stabilizes small bone fragments in spinal fusion or ankle fractures. The threads enhance stability in weight – bearing areas.
  5. Pediatric Orthopedics
Fine threads (φ≤1.5mm) gently fix growing bones (like forearm fractures in children), minimizing damage to the growth plate.
